Book cover design: what you get and what to check

Short answerA professional cover for print includes the front, spine and back, sized to your page count and trim size. An ebook needs a front cover only. Ask how many concept rounds are included and who owns the final files.
Cover proofs and colour swatches spread across a desk

What is included

  • Front cover for ebook
  • Full wrap (front, spine, back) for paperback
  • Agreed rounds of changes
  • Final files delivered to you

What is not included

  • AI-generated art unless you choose it
  • Marketing images unless quoted

You are ready if

  • Your title, subtitle and author name are final
  • You know your trim size and page count (we can help)

You may want to wait if

  • Your page count is still changing. The spine width depends on it.

How pricing works

We give you one written quote with every item priced before work starts. Nothing is added without your written approval. See all package prices and our guide How Much Does It Cost to Self-Publish a Book?.

Questions

Why does the spine width matter?

It depends on page count and paper. A wrong spine can cause text to wrap around the edge.

Do I get the files?

Yes. You receive your final cover files.

Is AI art used?

Not unless you choose it.
